The BL section designs, builds and maintains beam loss monitoring systems, used to measure and protect from particle losses as well as for optimising beam parameters throughout the CERN accelerator complex.

• Beam Loss Monitoring (BLM) based on gaseous, cryogenic and room temperature diamond, and optical/fibre detectors.
• SPS Spill Control.
• Development of radiation tolerant electronics.
• Development of new detector types.
